MGX’s $49 Billion Fund I Signals Abu Dhabi’s Growing Role in Global AI
MGX has confirmed the final close of MGX Fund I at $49 billion in total commitments, marking a major milestone for Abu Dhabi’s position in global AI investment.
Abu Dhabi’s artificial intelligence ambitions have taken another major step forward.
MGX has confirmed the final close of MGX Fund I at $49 billion in total commitments, significantly above its initial $45 billion target fund size. The announcement positions the UAE-born AI and advanced technology investor as one of the most influential capital platforms in the global AI economy.
For the UAE, this is more than a fund announcement. It is a signal that Abu Dhabi is moving deeper into the infrastructure layer of artificial intelligence — the capital-intensive foundation behind models, data centres, compute, semiconductors, platforms and frontier technology companies.
MGX describes itself as a UAE-born AI and advanced technology investor focused on enabling the AI fabric of the global economy. Its approach is not limited to one part of the sector. The fund is designed to provide exposure across the AI technology stack, including semiconductors, AI infrastructure, AI platforms and AI-enabling technologies.
The scale of Fund I also shows how global investor appetite for AI has moved beyond software applications. As AI systems become more powerful, the world needs more compute, more advanced chips, more energy-efficient infrastructure, and more capital to support companies building at global scale.
According to MGX, the fund attracted backing from institutional and private investors across the Gulf, North America, Asia and Europe. Since inception, MGX Fund I has invested in 14 companies, building a portfolio focused on AI champions and global technology platforms.
This matters because the next phase of artificial intelligence will not be defined only by who builds the best chatbot or app. It will also be shaped by who owns the infrastructure, who funds the compute layer, who supports frontier companies, and which regions become trusted centres for AI capital.
Abu Dhabi is clearly aiming to be one of those centres.
MGX’s $49 billion Fund I reinforces the UAE’s broader direction: treating AI as a strategic economic pillar, not just a technology trend. From investment and policy to infrastructure and talent, the country is positioning itself as a serious participant in the global AI race.
For UAE founders, professionals and companies, this creates an important signal. AI opportunities in the region may increasingly extend beyond product development into infrastructure, enterprise adoption, data, cloud, semiconductors, governance, security and sector-specific AI deployment.
The announcement also strengthens Abu Dhabi’s role as a bridge between global capital and advanced technology. With investors from multiple regions backing the fund, MGX is not only deploying UAE-linked capital into AI. It is also helping bring global capital into an AI investment platform born in the UAE.
The message is clear: artificial intelligence is becoming national-scale infrastructure.
And Abu Dhabi wants to be one of the places where that future is funded, built and scaled.
